Kevin Roberts introduced me to your site, and I visit it often, especially when I know I need a little smile. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes (3 weeks ago) and now find myself scared to eat anything for fear that my sugar would shoot up! My GP is supposed to make appointments for me with an eye specialist, diabetes specialist and a nutritionist, and I understand these things take time, but very frustrating. So in the meantime, I read your blogs (when I can 'cuz I find my eyes really sticky at times and can't see worth a d**n!) and smile, sometimes chuckle at your bits! Thanks for the smiles!

Hi Vicki. I'm so glad you are getting something out of my blog!

I too, found it very difficult, time-consuming and downright crazy-making when I was first diagnosed with type II. I was taking a university course at the time and I immediately dropped it because I was just overwhelmed.

I remember complaining to my dietitian that I didn't have time to do anything but take care of my diabetes. She told me that diabetes was more time consuming than a univ course and that I should cut myself some slack while I was coming to terms with it all.

In terms of eating, some protein at every meal is really helpful for me and I have definitely cut back on white stuff like rice, potatoes and pasta. I've always loved my veggies so I load up on those.

So just remember that you are important and worth it and that you need to put yourself first! Take care and get in touch anytime you need an empathetic ear.
